Heading into 2020

So that’s it, another year done. I have pretty mixed feelings about 2019; I achieved some big milestones, but I also had a few bad experiences throughout the year too. Nevertheless, I’m excited as we not only enter a new year, but a new decade. I have goals and plans for 2020 that I will be working on. It’s easy to list too many resolutions and get so caught up in ‘new year, new you’ that you don’t do anything at all. I started making positive changes at the end of 2019 that I intend on keeping up with, even beyond mid-January when most resolutions fail.

Around late November/early December, I went completely vegan. And it was a lot easier than I thought. It’s amazing how quickly my attitude towards certain foods has changed. I feel a lot better; both mentally and physically. My conscience is much lighter.

I’ve also started practising yoga, mostly for my mental health and my terrible posture, just as and when I feel like I need to. I notice a big difference after just a few sessions, so I’m excited to track my progress!

My birthday was last month, and I had a wonderful day, closely followed by Christmas. It was quiet, but perfect for me. It was a great way to end a tumultuous year.

What I’m reading: I’ve surprised myself with how much I’ve read this month. I finished Alice in Wonderland, finished Getting To Know You (which I’ve reviewed!), and finally started reading The Self-Care Project. Ollie kept saying he wanted to read more books, but can’t stand reading and would rather listen to audiobooks. I suggested reading to him from the books we already own, and this month we read The Alchemist together.

What I’m watching: I suppose because of all the reading, I haven’t watched much TV lately. Currently I’m re-watching Community, and this will be the third viewing! Community is criminally underrated – I urge you to watch it if you haven’t already.

What I’m playing: I had one wish on my birthday: to play Mass Effect 3. I finished ME2 about a year and a half ago, and never got round to playing the 3rd instalment. I’m not ready to let go at the end of this one.

What I’m listening to: I’m really enjoying The Blue Stones at the moment; their sound reminds me of The Black Keys.

Favourite blog post: It’s not a recent blog post, but one that really resonated with me last month. On Feeling Lost in Your Twenties was the blog post I needed in December. I turned 24 recently, and although that’s not old, I feel like I’m in limbo. I love Efia’s blog, her writing is candid, but there’s always a positive take away at the end of each post.

Goals for January (and the rest of the year!): 

  • Find an exercise routine that suits me. I know exercising is good for me, but it’s so boring.
  • Work on my time management and productivity (or lack thereof).
  • Speak positively of myself and others. Leave all that negativity in 2019.
  • Make more time for self care. For me, it’s a priority. The above resolutions won’t stick without this one.

    Happy new year! This is a great post – I’ve actually set myself similar goals! I also really want to get into yoga – do you practice it at home or are you signed up to a class? x

      Thank you! I just do it at home for now, I watch Yoga with Adriene on YouTube, she has loads of helpful videos for beginners. 😊
