This weeks spotlight is on author and blogger Jenny in Neverland:
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Hi! I’m Jenny, a 26 year old blogger from Essex in the UK. I’ve been blogging for 6 years this year and focus mainly on blogging advice, personal development and well-being!
What made you get into blogging?
I got into blogging back in 2013 and the honest answer is because I was bored and in a really dark place. At the time, I was suffering from really debilitating anxiety. I’d just quit my college course and my placement (and ultimately lost £700 in the process!). I loved reading (still do) and I was googling reviews for the book I was reading at the time. I came across a blog with a review on it and I was like, gobsmacked that this was a thing, I had no idea what blogging even was before that. So I emailed this blogger and explained who I was and that I’d love to start a book blog too and she very, very kindly helped me set one up and away I went!
It’s changed dramatically since I started – I don’t review books anymore and back then, I had no clue about anything. So essentially, being in one of the darkest phases of my life is what made me get into blogging!
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
I think my biggest achievement is building my blog up to the point where I’m almost making a full-time income from it. I mean, tell me that 3 years ago and I would have laughed. It’s a huge working progress though and I’m still working hard to improve my blog, myself and ultimately my career. Another massive achievement for me was being sent to the Brooklands Hotel in January this year for a press trip. That was an amazing experience! You can find my post about that here.
What do you do when you’re not blogging?
This is a tough question because as blogging is my job. That’s what I’m doing most of the time anyway but because I love it so much too, even in my spare time, I’m still doing blog work! I realise I sound like a complete geek, but on the occasions when I’m not blogging, I’m a huge Yoga fan and practice every day. I also watch a lot of series and I love gaming too, so you’ll probably find me on Red Dead Redemption 2! (Fun fact: I have the same surname as one of the main characters!)
What’s next for you?
Good question! I’m working on my 3rd eBook, called “An Introductory Guide to Working With Brands as a Blogger” which I really hope will give bloggers who are just dipping their toes into the world of working with brands that guidance that I never had. I’ve also just signed up for the Glow and Grow hub ran by Vix Meldrew to really knuckle down on my branding and growing my blog even further. I’ve also had ideas for a course floating around for a while, so perhaps you’ll see that in the near future too!
What advice would you give to anyone starting out?
Never be afraid to ask for help. Bloggers are so friendly and helpful and there are plenty of amazing resources out there (both free and paid) to help new bloggers. So if you’re serious about it, invest in those things whilst you’re just getting started because it’ll help you massively in the long run.
